Financing

Community Opportunity Center (COC), as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, operates with funds provided by three primary sources – Social Security entitlements, government funding, and private donations and fundraising.

Individuals receiving residential support contribute to COC a large portion of their Social Security entitlements to their overall cost of care. Most of our residents receive additional income from employment.

The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency provides funds to support residential services beyond those funds generated from a person’s Social Security.

Make a Donation

Donations can be made by check or through electronic transfer from your bank.  Contact Carrie or Nellie at the COC office for details about electronic transfer.  (Phone: 734-422-1020)

Donors are essential to the ongoing success and financial stability of COC. To this end, COC partners with several organizations such as the Plymouth Community United Way, Plymouth Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Alhambra, UPS, Ford Motor Company, and the Livonia Community Foundation.

COC also holds fundraising events throughout the year such as the Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, “Tee Off With A Friend” Golf Outing, Italian Night at East Side Mario’s, Parisian Charity Event, and our End of Year Campaign.

Individuals also make private donations throughout the year, such as memorial contributions to honor a deceased loved one, or honorary donation to honor an anniversary, birthday or special occasion, or through a bequest in a family will or trust. Individuals also may make a direct contribution at any time or make a matching gift through their employer.

All of these financing sources make it possible for us to better focus on the mission of COC in helping people live fulfilled lives.
